|Title:||TENCompetence: new ways to encourage competence development of hospitality professionals across time and place|
|Abstract:||The intrinsic dynamics of the tourism and hospitality service industry requires continuous accelerated learning of individuals, groups and organisations both formally and informally to find new ways addressing changing customers desires. Both for work performance and personal growth the TENCompetence project envisages to establish an enabling educational, organisational and technical infrastructure to support lifelong competence development via internationally connected learning networks embedding learning in the evolving work practices. To support learning experiences fulfilling the ambitions of students and working professionals in the hospitality sector. TENCompetence takes into account that real life learning takes place in a complex interplay between individual and organisational learning. It recognises that learning occurs any time any place, both in formal and informal settings where people learn from people and media, from knowledgeable peers and recognised experts. The question is how a person becomes aware of learning opportunities and gets optimally supported and connected to people, knowledge resources, guidance and recognition for his specific needs. This paper shows how the TENCompetence infrastructure aims to provide this learner support.|
