Specht, M. (2009). Personalisation and Contextualisation in TEL. Keynote given at the Conference Interdisciplinary approaches to technology-enhanced learning (IATEL). June, 19, 2009, Darmstadt, Germany.en_US
Personalization and Contextualization are powerful mechanisms for supporting learning. Recent developments enable personalized access to learning networks in dedicated learning contexts. The social context has recently shown to be a very important and powerful source for adaptation of learning experiences in social software. Individual profiles and profile networks are often the basis in social software for supporting learning in learning networks. Consequences of this have also to be taken into account for approaches to personalization and contextualization. In TEL a new interpretation of feeding personal information back to the learner for enabling reflection (in and about action) moves away from classical approaches of adaptive instructional design and adaptive hypermedia. The presentation will argue for a broader interpretation of adaptivity ranging from programmed instruction to smart indicators, and incentive systems in learning networks.en_US
