|dc.description.abstract||The Case Management Model and Notation (CMMN) standard defines a common meta model for modelling and graphically expressing a case and an interface format for exchange of case models and interoperability amongst different tools. The application, operation and the existence and adherence to best practices of the standard are not trivial for many organisations. Therefore this thesis provides an answer to the question whether the CMMN standard can be applied in practice. The theoretical background and context of CMMN are explained. A description is provided for the specific CMMN design, planning and run-time execution concept, meta model and its underlying notation. It is explained how other development methods, in alternative approaches, can be partially applied for the development and definition of a CMMN model. A business case is used to test the practical application of CMMN, in particular its design aspects. Using a top-down development approach, including the definition of the relevant business scenarios, a CMMN model is created for two sub cases. Based on observations it is concluded that CMMN can be used in practice but that, based on the practical application, recommendations are outlined as to where and how the standard should be improved.||en_US|
