Abstract: If an organization needs a software component, it can choose from different software component sources. The basis of this study are two studies by Trienekens et al. (2017) and Badampudi et al. (2016) in which two different initial component sourcing criteria frameworks are deduced from elaborate studies. Trienekens et al. (2017) indicates five different component sourcing options. The goal of this study is to offer organizations insights into the criteria that should be considered for the different software component sourcing. This study reclassifies the two known criteria overviews from previous studies and in addition additional literature research of four individual simultaneous studies is added. Over 160 criteria have been identified and reclassified. After the reclassification, the remaining overview of 22 criteria has been validated in a case study. In addition, this research attempts to define the criteria and the relevance of these criteria is also studied. Based on the criteria overview, their definitions and the subsequent relevance this study should (1) enable organizations to further develop their sourcing strategies and (2) provide a solid base for further development of a sourcing criteria framework.
